Eco Cleaning Tools

You may be using eco-friendly cleaning products, but have you thought about the tools you’re using? There are eco-friendly options for those, too. Regardless of your cleaning job, there is an eco-friendly tool to help.

1. Microfiber cloths

These super-absorbent cloths have changed the face of cleaning. The fibers that make up these cloths are woven very densely, and they can be used over and over. They even come in different textures and colors. They even make microfiber cloths that mimic the texture of terry cloth.

2. Cellulose cloths

Cellulose cloths make an eco-friendly replacement for paper towels. Cellulose is made from recycled newspaper that is specially treated.

3. Bamboo scrub brushes

Because bamboo grows so rapidly, it is an eco-friendly choice of natural material. Scrub brushes made from bamboo are water-resistant and often have natural, plant-based bristles.

4. Mops

Steam mops are an eco-friendly tool that uses steam, not chemicals, to deep clean. There are steam cleaning mops for hard floors as well. Other eco-friendly mops are those with bamboo handles, and with microfiber heads.

5. Brooms

Brooms with bamboo handles are durable and renewable. You can find bamboo brooms with natural, plant-based fibers. Some brooms are made with recycled plastic bristles. There are even “corn brooms” whose bristles are made from corn fibers. There are also brooms with recycled aluminum handles and plastic parts made from recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic.

6. Buckets

Buckets made from recycled aluminum or PET are now available. Some are made from recycled plastic bottles.

7. Mold scrubbers

Instead of using bleach or harsh chemicals to clean the mold and mildew in your bathroom, you can purchase cleaning blocks made from woven nylon to remove mold stains.

8. Sanitizing light wands

These wands use ultraviolet light to kill germs, letting you skip the harsh chemicals. You can use them anywhere, from the kitchen and bathroom or the living and bedrooms. You can even take one with you when you travel.

9. Squeegees

This inexpensive tool saves a lot of chemical use around the home. Cleaning glass with just water is possible if you use a squeegee to remove the water.

10. Biodegradable plastic bags

Invest in some plastic bags that are biodegradable when you’re cleaning. There are some with fun or interesting designs, or just plain.

11. Laundry umbrella or laundry tree

To dry your laundry the eco way, invest in an umbrella laundry rack. It takes up less space and holds more clothing than a traditional clothesline. You will save a lot of money cleaning clothes when you dry them on a laundry umbrella.
