Pinwheels are fun to make, and just as much fun to play with! The good news is, they are easily made from basic household materials.

Here’s how to make a special Memorial Day pinwheel in patriotic colors.

What you’ll need:

* Two square pieces of paper in patriotic colors (or use white and decorate)
* Pencil with an eraser
* Push-pin or needle
* Scissors
* Glue
* Glitter, markers, crayons, or paints

How to make the pinwheel:

1. Fold each square into a triangle.

2. Fold the triangle in half again to make a smaller triangle.

3. Unfold both pieces of paper and decorate one side of each one.

4. Put the paper squares together (no glue), decorated sides facing outward.

5. Cut each corner from the outside inward, cutting only halfway to the center.

6. In the upper left corner of each segment, make a small black dot.

7. Fold each dotted corner inward to the center and glue it down.

8. Run a push-pin through the center of the pinwheel.

9. Pin the push-pin to the side of the pencil’s eraser.

Let the glue dry, take a deep breath, and blow!
